With just a few ingredients and customizable add-ins, Smoothie Bowls are the best way to start off the day!
Sometimes we write about books, othere times we feature fun crafts and DIYs or printables, and sometimes we do a recipe! Today is the day for a recipe!
Our Quick and Delicious Go-To Smoothie Bowl is the perfect recipe!
It's nutritious, filled with simple, healthy ingredients and the best part about it is that it comes together in about 5 minutes!
Recently we went to Bare Blends to have a post-birthday celebration breakfast for Cenzia. We've been there many times in the past and always love trying out new flavors!
This time Cenzia had the Snickers Bowl weekly special and I ordered the Chinaberry and both were delicious!
(Above photo from a previous visit when Cenzia chose one with cookies mixed in!)
It's always fun trying new foods and we enjoy the inspiration for coming up with our own recipes!
We've also included a few books that have berries in their title or storyline, because we love making those book connections!
Smoothie bowls are satisfying, healthy and fresh... the perfect way to start the day!
As much as we enjoyed going out for a smoothie bowl, time and money are usually limited, so we thought we'd try our hand at making our own!

Quick & Delicious Go-To Smoothie Bowl
Love the idea of a smoothie bowl? So do we! Here's a wonderfully simple smoothie bowl recipe that is easy to make, uses simple ingredients and is healthy and delicious!
Prep Time: 5 Minutes
Total Time: 10 Minutes
Servings: 1 large serving or 2 smaller ones
Equipment Needed:
An immersion blender is my favorite way to put this together with minimal fuss! A blender or food processor also does the job!
Large glass or 4 cup Mason jar (or other similarly sized jar) if using an immersion blender.
Blender or Food Processor if that's your blending appliance of choice!
Beforehand- Regarding the Bananas:
Freeze two large bananas. Ideally, you peel and slice before freezing for the fastest prep.
HOWEVER, if you're like me and don't plan this far in advance, just keep a couple of bananas in the freezer at all times!
Then, when you're ready to make the smoothie, just quickly run the banana under water, slice the banana into circles about 1/2 inch thick and separate the peel from the fruit. Just be careful! The banana can be slippery!
Ingredients:
BASE
2 Large frozen bananas (either sliced ahead of time, or just before making the smoothie).
2 heaping Tablespoons cocoa (we like organic, but your fave is what you should use!)
2 Tablespoons peanut butter or nut/seed butter of choice.
1/2 cup of almond milk or milk of choice
TOPPINGS
1/4 cup of sliced strawberries
1/4 cup of blueberries
2 heaping Tablespoons of chopped dark organic chocolate
2 Tablespoons shaved or shredded coconut
Directions:
If using immersion blender, put banana slices, cocoa, peanut/nut butter and milk into jar or large glass. If you prefer using a regular blender, be sure to put your milk in first!
Using an immersion blender or your blender/food processor, completely blend until smoothie is mixed enough for ingredients to be combined to desired consistency. We like it to be thick like soft-serve ice cream, but your preference is the perfect choice!
Divide smoothie into two bowls if sharing or larger one if you're extra hungry!
Top with strawberries, blueberries, chopped chocolate and coconut!
Notes:
I like to have some bananas in the freezer at all times. It's my answer for bananas that have gone past the stage of eating straight. This way I can quickly throw together a smoothie, 'Nice cream' (basically our smoothie bowl recipe base), add it to a muffin or make a delectable banana bread!
We also always have frozen berries in the freezer. This smoothie is great with both fresh or frozen fruit. If you want to keep it colder longer in the warm temps, frozen berries are a great way to make this happen!
OTHER GREAT TOPPING IDEAS: Granola, walnuts, almonds, cacao nibs, chocolate chips, Nutella, dried cereal, crushed cookies, or even Annie's Bunny Chews! Peek through those cabinets for inspiration!
The smoothie bowl base is just like a soft-serve ice cream and can be enjoyed on its own as a guilt-free vegan frozen dessert!
Enjoy your smoothie bowl!
